The NSTEP Eat Walk Live program costs approximately $24.00 per student for 1 full year, or $2.40 per month, per child. If just 1,000 people in Alberta or British Columbia give $10 each that would equal enough for 500 students to have access to the NSTEP program for a full year.
Donating to NSTEP helps us to work with today’s generation of children, tomorrow’s adults, to build health sustainable lifestyles, that will help their brains and bodies flourish.
You can donate by clicking the link below, or you can also donate corporately through Benevity, and through Skip The Depot, by pledging your returned bottle funds to NSTEP!
Childhood overweight and obesity has been rising steadily in Canada in recent decades. Between 1978/79 and 2004, the combined prevalence of overweight and obesity among those aged two to 17 years increased from 23 per cent to 34 per. If current trends continue, by 2040, up to 70% of adults aged 40 years will be either overweight or obese. NSTEP programs are key for children to have healthy habits for life.
The number of overweight or obese infant and young children increased from 31 million globally in 1991, to 41 million in 2016, and continues to grow each year.
There is a lack of knowledge about healthy eating, how simple and affordable it can be, as well as the focus on digital activities versus physical activity. This has created an environment that has led to an increase in overweight, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic diseases. Chronic diseases are 80% lifestyle. NSTEP can help.
